In a small town, people are dreaming: a man dreams of buying a house; a woman dreams of travelling; and an adolescent dreams of attending university. As each story plays out, we watch the devastating, step-by-step process of human traffickers taking advantage of these dreams. This five-minute animated video illustrates how human trafficking doesn’t happen all at once, but rather is a process of three elements: Act, Means and Purpose.

Human trafficking is one of the largest and most profitable criminal activities globally, ranking only behind the illegal weapon and drug trades. It has ensnared more than 20 million people around the world. It is key to understand both how technology is being used by traffickers, as well as how it can be used to stop this exploitation. IOM is working with partners including Microsoft to identify innovative means to use technology to stop human trafficking.
